Located in the heart of the Willamette Valley, Salem is the state's second largest city and Oregon's state capital. Salem is also a city rich in heritage, from the ongoing preservation of the historic downtown buildings to its numerous museums and galleries. Mission Mill Museum gives visitors a chance to walk in the footsteps of Oregon pioneers as it features pioneer structures as well as 19th-century furnishings and artifacts showcased in a park atmosphere. Wine enthusiasts enjoy visiting one of the numerous wineries found in and around the city, including the Kathken Vineyards, where a variety of blends can be tasted. Salem also offers great shopping with a wide array of antique shops, boutiques and specialty stores. The city's Lancaster Mall is a popular shopping center, which features over 80 shops and services, including the major department stores Macy's and Sears.
